Tagore Society sponsored annual Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan gets underway

Jamshedpur, Jan 20: The three-day annual Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan got underway on Friday at Rabindra Bhavan under the auspices of the Tagore Society. The annual Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan is being organized since over four decades and its popularity can be gauged by the growing number of audience through the period. Tagore Society has been presenting internationally acclaimed exponents in this genre and this year too is no different.

The first day’s event on Friday remained true to this observation. Kolkata’s renowned Rabindra Sangeet artistes Shreya Guha Thakurta, Raghab Chattopadhyay, Rupankar Bagchi and one of the doyens among Rabindra Sangeet renderers Swagatalakkhi Dasgupta regaled the house-full audience in Rabindra Bhawan’s large auditorium with their performances. The singers rendered their songs with élan and drove in the moods of the World Poet (Vishwa Kobi) Rabindranath Thakur’s (Tagore) lyrics with their well controlled and sonorous voices. The programme was anchored by the multi-faceted Sabyasachi Chanda in his baritone voice. 

Tagore Society’s General Secretary Ashis Chowdhury stated, “This three-day Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan continues with Tagore Society’s 40 years plus tradition of presenting the top-bracket Rabindra Sangeet exponents with national and international fame. They have been providing multihued colours of nature that evoke varied moods through the lyrical compositions of the inimitable Rabindranath. The singers have continued to regale the audiences comprising singers, connoisseurs and general music lovers.”

Ashis Chowdhury further informed that the aim of the annual Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan was to acquaint music lovers including the young generation with the rich heritage of Rabindra Sangeet.

On the second day, Saturday January 21, the superstars of Bangladesh who have taken the romance of Rabindra Sangeet across the world Sabina Yasmin Sathi, Monomoy Bhattacharya and Lisa Ahmed will warm the hearts of listeners with their melodious nuances that have made them indelible household names through the years. The music instrumental accompanists include Among the accompanists of the artistes, Kolkata’s famous tabaliya Biplab Mandal,  violinist Sandipan Ganguly, Subroto Mukherjee on Keyboard and Sanjivan Acharya on Manjira.
