Tagore School of Arts Jamshedpur holds annual prize distribution ceremony

 

Jamshedpur, Aug 31: The annual prize distribution ceremony of the Tagore School of Arts, run by Tagore Society, was held at Rabindra Bhavan. The chief guest on the occasion was noted industrialist and social worker Bikash Mukherjee.

Delivering the welcome address, Tagore Society President Dr. H.S. Pal emphasized that art was the adornment of life, urging students to use their artistic training as a medium to overcome stress in modern life. Principal Chandana Choudhury presented the annual report, highlighting that 946 students appeared in examinations during 2024–25 session across multiple disciplines including Fine Arts, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Guitar, Classical Vocal, Odissi, Tabla, Keyboard, Craft, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, and Rabindranath dance.

She also detailed the school’s rich calendar of cultural activities. Students presented a dance-drama on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s Mahaprayan Divas and staged Sharad Aahwan, a grand dance-drama invoking the autumn season. Their performances during Basantotsav and festivals such as Durga Puja at Sakchi Durga Bari and at The Bengal Club earned wide appreciation. The school also engaged the larger community through initiatives like the All Jamshedpur Sit and Draw Competition at its Telco and Rabindra Bhavan branches.

In his keynote address, chief guest Bikash Mukherjee lauded the institution for being a cultural hub of Eastern India for over six decades. He reminded that the school carried the legacy of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, urging teachers and students to pursue art not only as training but also as sadhana (spiritual practice). He stressed that dedication and self-discipline were the keys to artistic fulfillment.

Prizes were awarded to successful students of 2024–25 session. Tagore Society’s General Secretary Ashis Choudhury reaffirmed the commitment to uphold the school’s identity as a “temple of art.” Vice President Dr. Jahar Banerjee and all faculty members were also present.

The event, conducted by Rachna Mahato, concluded with the rendition of ‘Shubho Karmapathe Dharo Nirbhayo.’
