Jamshedpur, Jan 7: Starting January 15, patients at the newly built hospital at MGM Medical College, Dimna, will have access to super specialty health services for Heart, Cancer, and Neuro ailments. Renowned doctors, including Dr. Vimalendu Kumar (Heart), Dr. S. Kundu (Cancer), and Dr. N. Parvez (Neuro), will lead these OPD services. However, the absence of necessary diagnostic equipment will limit the services to consultations only.
Basic equipment such as ECG machines for Heart OPD and essential tools for Cancer and Neuro testing are yet to be procured. A hospital official revealed, “The tender process for equipment purchase has been initiated, but it will take at least a month for the devices to arrive.”
The hospital management plans to expand its super specialty services to nine additional departments, making it a hub for 12 advanced medical fields. State-of-the-art machines like MRI, PET-scan, Cathlab, and Brachytherapy units are part of this ambitious project, with services expected to be fully operational by June.
Key equipment and services planned:
Cathlab: A laboratory for heart diagnostics like angiography, angioplasty, and pacemaker implantation.
PET-scan Machine: Critical for imaging internal organs and diagnosing cancer, heart diseases, and neurological disorders.
Radiotherapy Machines: Advanced devices for targeted cancer treatments, particularly effective for breast, cervical, head, and neck cancers.
Brachytherapy: A cutting-edge cancer treatment that delivers radiation directly to tumors, sparing surrounding healthy tissues.
State Health Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh assured that the procurement process is on track. “We are committed to equipping MGM Hospital with modern technology like CT scans, MRI, PET-scans, and Cathlabs. These facilities will enable regional-level treatment for serious diseases and reduce the dependency on metropolitan hospitals,” Singh stated.
Meanwhile, construction work at the new hospital continues. The health department is also working on creating 72 new doctor posts to support the expanded services.
Residents are hopeful that the upgrades will bring significant improvements in healthcare accessibility and quality in the region.
