Jamshedpur: Jharkhand welcomed the New Year on a bright and sunny note as temperatures remained pleasant across the state, with no rainfall recorded anywhere during the past 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.
Day temperatures stayed above normal at most places, indicating a gradual easing of winter chill. Ranchi recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 26.1°C, which was 2.7°C above normal, while Jamshedpur recorded a maximum of 24.3°C.
Chaibasa and Daltonganj also witnessed warm daytime conditions with maximum temperatures hovering around 26°C and 25.7°C, respectively.
Night temperatures, however, remained on the cooler side, especially in interior pockets. IMD data showed that fog was reported at a few places during the morning hours, including Jamshedpur, Daltonganj and Deoghar, with the lowest visibility of 300 metres recorded at Daltonganj.
Despite this, no cold wave conditions were reported anywhere in the state.
Across various AWS stations, maximum temperatures ranged between 20°C and 26°C, while minimum temperatures largely stayed between 4°C and 9°C, reflecting typical winter conditions.
The weather remained completely dry, with nil rainfall reported across all districts.
Meteorologists said the clear skies and rising daytime temperatures provided a pleasant beginning to the New Year, though cold nights are expected to persist in some districts over the next few days.
