Subernarekha to be cleansed of urban pollution : Banna Gupta

Jamshedpur, May 27 : Health minister and Jamshedpur West MLA  Banna Gupta on Saturday claimed that Subernarekha river will be freed of urban pollution.

A meeting was held with chief minister Hemant Soren and departmental minister of water resource department in the light of decreasing water level and increasing water pollution of Jamshedpur’s lifeline Swarnrekha river for conservation and beautification.

The minister claimed to have urged the Minister of Water Resources Department cum Chief Minister Hemant Soren to direct the Secretary to make arrangements to release balanced water flow from Chandil Dam. Due to which the dirty water and water hyacinth frozen in the Subarnarekha river will flow and the pollution level of water will improve immediately.

The direct communication of water from the drains of Jamshedpur city into the river is becoming the main reason for the water pollution of the Subarnarekha river.

Banna Gupta has directed to call a high-level meeting with Jamshedpur Deputy Commissioner soon and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Mango Notified Area Committee and Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Limited and get the details of all the small and big drains flowing into the Subarnarekha river.

The dirty water of many small and big drains of Jamshedpur city goes into the Subarnarekha river, due to which the river gets polluted and this was discussed in the high level meeting in which plans were made to prevent dirty water from entering the river, but the standard operating procedure of the civic bodies and Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Limited will be known.

A comprehensive action plan will be prepared and sent to the Urban Development Department, so that the dirty water coming in the drain can be prevented from going into the river.

Banna Gupta said that an action plan will also be prepared for planting trees on a large scale on both sides of the Subarnarekha river and Kharkai river.

The action plan on this subject is being discussed for the last four months. Last few months ago, the first experiment was done to clean the Domuhani and to purify the dirty drain water in the river by natural method, in which there has been widespread success. Now work is being done on the action plan to keep the river completely clean.
