Jamshedpur MLA Saryu for review of arms license issued without Wildlife Warden nod

Jamshedpur, May 27: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has written to the District Deputy Commissioner demanding action under the provisions of Section 34 and Section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act-1972.

The MLA said that in the light of the relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act-1972, the competent authority of East Singhbhum district has issued arms license to anyone without obtaining the permission of the Chief Wildlife Warden or without informing them after the notification of Dalma Sanctuary.

According to Section-51 of the Act, if a person wants to take a license for any kind of weapon within a radius of 10 kilometers of a sanctuary, then it is necessary to get his recommendation from the Chief Wildlife Warden. This provision of the Act applies to both the licensee and the issuer.

“The deputy commissioner would be aware that Jamshedpur city is within a radius of 10 kms from Dalma Sanctuary. In this context, it should be reviewed whether all the persons who have been issued licenses to purchase arms after the notification of Dalma Sanctuary have obtained permission from the Chief Wildlife Warden or not?” the letter asks.

The MLA has also questioned if the minister Banna Gupta a resident of Kadma had obtained the above mentioned permission for taking arms and licences.
