Study pressure leads student of Jamshedpur Women’s College to commit suicide

Jamshedpur, Oct. 3 : Two teenage girls committed suicide in separate incidents under Kadma and Bistupur police station areas late last night. A 16-year-old girl Radhika Kumari a commerce intermediate student of Jamshedpur Women’s College, self-immolated at her house in Block No 1 in Shastrinagar under Kadma police station area at about 10 pm.

Though the family members rushed her to Tata Main Hospital’s burn care unit but she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital early Tuesday morning.

Gopal Shao, father of the deceased said his daughter has not signal that led her to end her life.” We are all in state of shock. But, as there was no apparent reasons, we guess that the pressure of her study might have led her to take the drastic step,” said Shao, who drives auto-rickshaw said.

Shao, when queried, said that his daughter set herself on fire while his wife and son were watching TV serial at 10 pm. He said as soon as the family members saw her ablaze, they tried to douse the flame by pouring water, but she was burnt excessively.

OC, Kadma police station, RD Singh confirmed about the self-immolation by a teenaged girl at her house in Shastrinagar.

” We are investigating the incident. The deceased’s father has in a statement claimed that she might have taken this drastic step under pressure of study. We are probing into the circumstance that led her to self-immolate,” said Singh.
In another incident of suicide took place at the outhouse of bungalow No 12 in Circuit House area near XLRI campus under Bistupur thana area when an 18-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan of their residence.

The girl who committed suicide was identified as Deepa Nag, daughter of Bhagirathy Nag.

Family members rushed her to Tata Main Hospital. They said the doctors at the emergency duty declared her as brought dead.

Bhagirathy Nag said that his daughter had stopped study after passing out matric examination from the Jharkhand Academic Council two years ago.

” We are really in pain and donít know what led her to take such drastic step. My daughter had taken dinner at about 9 pm last night and went to bed. But, at about 2 am my wife, Urmila, saw her hanging from the ceiling fan at her room,” said father.

OC, Bistupur thana, Srineewash said this to be a case of suicide, but could not say anything about the reason behind it.
