Jamshedpur, March 2: Celebrating National Science Day, 350 students and teachers from 152 different schools belonging to 13 different blocks of East Singhbhum, visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur.
Visit was jointly organized by Jharkhand State Chapter of NASI, District Education Department, East Singhbhum and CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory.
In the beginning of the programme, students were shown a documentary film on CSIR and NML. Welcoming the students and the teachers, NML Director, Dr. Indranil Chattoraj, expressed his happiness on the visit of large number of students to the laboratory.
He motivated the students and teachers through his inspiring words and told them the importance of inventions like Raman Effect as well as innovation.
He also emphasized upon to skills development along with normal education pattern. Dr Chattoraj, also requested the teachers to come out from the routine class room teaching and make the students learn by doing themselves and education through participation.
Dr Arvind Sinha, Chairman of Jharkhand Chapter of NASI and Chief Scientist, explained the students about the significance of Raman Effect and motivated the students to develop a habit of critical thinking and self analysis of the facts told to them.
He has also conveyed to officials from Education Department that Jharkhand Chapter of NASI is willing to join hands with them to take the science to the door step of the seekers students. He proposed that on Saturdays, team of NASI volunteers will be available to visit remote schools in the villages of not only East Singhbhum but also different towns of the state.
R K P Singh, District Education Officer, expressed his sincere thanks to CSIR NML and NASI for motivating the students. He also praised the ongoing School Interaction Programme (SNIP) of NML and Vigyan Diwali of NASI-Jharkhand. He appreciated the efforts put forward by Dr N G Goswami, Chief Scientist and Advisor Management for his untiring efforts since 2011 to link Research & development with school education.
Interacting with students, Dr Goswami motivated them towards science and its application in day-to-day life. The students were divided in four groups and they were taken around the lab to see the available facilities, ongoing experiments and could interact with researchers working in different areas of metallurgy and materials engineering.
