Jamshedpur, Nov 22: The 13th National Creativity Olympiad one of the mega events of The Institution of Engineers (India) , Jamshedpur Local Centre commenced on Saturday with the participation of 18 teams from all over the country (12 teams from out location and 6 teams from Jamshedpur).
Amitava Bakshi, chairman of the Institution welcomed the chief guest and all the students and Teachers, invitees and members of the Institution.
During the inauguration function Bakshi said that the scope of National Creativity Olympiad 2014 has been extended to the students from Engineering colleges and Polytechnics.
Prabal Patra Organising Secretary introduced the chief guest Ranveer Sinha, M.D, Tata Hitachi. The Olympiad was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the chief Guest and other dignitaries on the dais.
The chief guest inspired the students by his four mantras 1. Promote innovation 2. Tata Hitachi MD opens 13th National Creativity Olympiad Nurture creativity 3. Develop communication skill and 4. Work with full devotion for achieving success in all walks of life. Dr. A K Vaish immediate past Hony. Secretary expressed gratefulness for the inspiring and educative speech of the chief guest, new initiatives taken by the chairman for making NCO 2014 more fruitful and he proposed the vote of thanks.
This year theme for model making competition was “Modern cities first category (Direct domain), a preliminary round of screening is conducted among the teams from local schools by Institution of Engineers, whereas schools from outside Jamshedpur are requested to nominate their best team for participation in the Creativity Olympiad .
Finally more than 20 teams are selected and top 3 teams are chosen for attractive prizes from the sponsors. Participation certificate are given to all the teams.
In the second category (Open domain), the schools of Jamshedpur are given a scientific theme for making and building a working model to showcase their creative and originality.
This open domain competition is organized under Jr. Category (Students from Std. VI to Std. VIII) and Sr. Category (Students from Std. IX to Std. XII). These models are displayed on the Prize Distribution day and finally two models are adjudged best in each category. and Transportation system” The students were provided with Ice Cream sticks , straws, thermocol, Cycle spokes ,balloons etc. for making the model.
They created a High rise Building in the 1st event and in the second event they designed a car with innovative propulsion systems based on Newton Law of motion and other theories of Physics.
The prize distribution function will be held on Sunday at 6.25 P.M in the Audi- torium of Motilal Nehru Public School. The model exhibition on different aspects of science and technology by college/school students of JSR city will be open for public from 5.00 P.M onwards.
The Creativity Olympiad is designed to be a hands-on event on Science and Technology. The rules are written such that they may be adapted for use in the average science classroom. The competition is held under two categories:
