Jamshedpur: A Jamshedpur court today acquitted Vinayak Das in a long-running case involving allegations of sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage. The Additional District and Sessions Judge-III cleared the accused after the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the claims.
Lack of Evidence Leads to Acquittal
The case originated in 2022 when the complainant, Sarojini Kumari, filed a formal report at the Bagbera police station. She accused Das of maintaining a physical relationship with her between 2018 and 2022 by promising marriage, a commitment she alleged he later broke.
However, the legal process stalled as the complainant failed to produce enough evidence to substantiate her claims during the trial. The court noted the following key factors in the decision:
-
The prosecution could not conclusively establish the charges.
-
Key witnesses failed to appear or provide testimony to support the allegations.
-
The court granted the accused the “benefit of doubt” due to the overall lack of proof.
Defense Arguments
Advocate Swati Mitra represented Vinayak Das throughout the proceedings. The defense successfully argued that the allegations lacked the necessary legal weight for a conviction. Following the final arguments, the court ruled in favor of the defense and acquitted Das in accordance with the law, bringing the four-year dispute to a legal close.
