Jamshedpur, Sept. 8:  According to an NCRB report, 10,335 youth committed suicide across the country in 2019 that proportionately add up to one suicide every hour. The number may have doubled especially through the COVID pandemic. The number of suicides globally is 1,32,423. Dr Jain, Dr Ram and M Durga Rao of Jamshedpur’s social organization Jeevan said that every youth was under a little stress and that every third among them fell victims of anxiety that led to extreme stress and resultant depression.

In the course of a psychological study to probe the causes of such negative mental manifestations, authorities analyzed the reasons that included the pressure of parents, friends, society and teachers on the young minds to live through huge syllabus prescribed courses. The authorities believed that negative mental conditions were nurtured as the youth did not find persons to share their tension or tense feelings with family members or friends as they too were busy in their mad rush to nowhere in their pursuits for abstract necessities or they lacked family support in the sense that they felt awry of telling folks at home who could give them a sympathetic hearing and try to resolve their issues that were acting as depressants.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Jeevan officials mentioned that when research was done on the functions of the human brain, surprising facts came to the fore. A youth of today would make creative use of only four percent of his brain correctly. Of the 96 percent, 40 percent were engaged in thinking about the events of the past and 40 percent on the days to come. Eight percent concentrated their thoughts on such topics that had no relation to logic like which car a friend’s brother bought, what is its color, who is the winner of Big Boss, to cite a few examples. Another eight percent commonly tried to cope with their worries with moves like making Face Book posts and awaiting the responses. These, according to the press release were in the nature of ‘self inflicted’ worries. The communiqué suggested, “When one knows, for example, that the exams are in December, the student starts preparations in November, and this leads to tension, fretting and fuming, getting upset and tensed and takes resort to intoxicants that do no good to the mind and body. If such youth can get away from all these unnecessary things and use their brain in the right, creative way, then the causes of tension and depression wil automatically be rooted out.”
