Jamshedpur : A batch of 76 students of Std X and XI from St. Mary�s English School, Bistupur, accompanied by two teachers Pintu Paul and Shambhulal Kumar visited CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur and interacted with the scientists and research fellows this morning under the aegis of School-NML interactive programme (SNIP) in collaboration with Jharkhand State chapter of The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).
The main objective of this programme is to make young students acquainted with R&D laboratory environment and simultaneously to inculcate an interest in the young minds towards scientific tools and techniques for solving problems. The students were thrilled and happy to visit the laboratory and interact with the working groups.
The programme was scheduled for four hours, which comprised of an overview of Indian Science and Technology, Documentary film show on CSIR and NML separately, visit to NML Museum / Archive and selective units of the laboratory to have an exposure of modern laboratory research environment. Dr. N.G.Goswami, Adviser, Management of CSIR-NML briefed about the programme and gave an overview of CSIR and NML contributions in different branches of Science & Technology.
He defined Science, Science & Technology, development of science & technology in Indian perspectives. Dr. Arvind Sinha, Chief Scientist and Chairman, NASI-Jharkhand Chapter delivered a inspiring and thought provoking lecture on Science and its relevance for the development of students in particular and society in general. He emphasized on the contributions made by NASI towards bringing science closer to Indian society.
Dr.P.N. Mishra, Principal. Scientist explained and discussed about the significance and utilization of natural resources like ores, minerals, and rocks for the development of Nation. He explains, how R&D carried out at NML with example at the lecture hall and further arrange lab visit. The students expressed their felling, asked numbers of question, and clarify doubt with scientists and research scholars.
“I came to know about many new aspects of science and technology which I barely knew earlier”, said Sidhant, a student of Std. XI after the laboratory visit.
Md. Wahidur Rahman said, “I came to know about new things here like CSIR involved in research on a spectrum covering from medicine to heavy machines. Ms Shruti Dipti expressed the similar views and showed her keen interest towards Aerospace Engineering.
Shubham Parkash, Ms Prerna Bhandari and Ms Neha Pramanik expressed that the lab visit was helpful in improving their thought process and expressed their interest to pursue research in CSIR.
B.Ayush Reddy, Navneet, Ms Koylanda Homi and Gvrysah Singh were impressed to see the cleanness of the Laboratory.
Ms Utkarsha Mahato, said, “The visit to the laboratory helped me to know in depth about different types of ores, minerals, metals, rocks, and how they are extracted and used”.
