Jamshedpur, Jan 8: Acting on the directions of the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) conducted an intensive enforcement drive against the use, storage and sale of single-use plastic in the Sakchi market area on Thursday.
The drive was carried out under the Plastic Waste Management Rules with the objective of ensuring environmental protection and maintaining urban cleanliness.
During the campaign, teams inspected several shops and commercial establishments across the busy market zone.
As part of the drive, nearly 5 Kgs of banned single-use plastic items were seized.
Shopkeepers found violating the rules were fined a total of Rs 2,500, and the confiscated plastic material was destroyed as per prescribed norms.
Officials said that single-use plastic poses a serious threat to the environment and public health.
They reiterated that the administration is fully committed to eliminating such plastic from the city and that similar enforcement drives will continue in the future.
Traders and residents were urged to refrain from using single-use plastic and instead opt for eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth, jute, paper bags and other sustainable options to help make the city clean and plastic-free.
The administration also made it clear that stricter action will be taken against violators in the coming days to ensure complete compliance with the ban on single-use plastic.
