
Jamshedpur, Aug 1: Kaushiki Kashyap from St. Joseph’s Convent School and Soham Sarthak Sinha from Don Bosco Academy, Patna won the senior and junior categories of the ASISC (Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate) inter- school regional debate hosted at the Kerala Public School, Kadma on Thursday.

Winners from various zones participated in the regional level debate today. A total of 24 participants from 14 schools from six zones- Dhanbad, Bhagalpur, Ranchi, Patna, Deoghar, and Jamshedpur participated in the debate today. Students from Carmel School, Dhanbad became the winner in both the senior and junior category.
The debate for held for two categories- junior level for students of classes IX and X and senior category for classes XI and XII. The topic for the junior category was ‘In the criminal justice system, punishment is more effective than rehabilitation’ while the topic for seniors was ‘the acceptance of refugees, immigrants ought to be an unrestricted human right.’
In the junior category (I) the Debate was chaired by Anuja Vaidyanathan, presently working in XLRI.
In the senior category (II) the Debate was chaired by Rajiv Talwar a Trustee of Jamshedpur Arya Samaj trust and a Vice Chairman of Academic wing �Siksha Samity� of Dayanand Public School.
The judges for the senior category were principal of Jusco School, Kadma, Jhumjhumi Nandi; XLRI faculty member Shantanu Gupta and Shamita Ahuja. The judges for the junior category were XLRI’s accreditation coordinator Shikha Taunk; counsellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Aditi Chatterjee and creative director of Mount Litera Zee School, Sunita Sinha.
The contestants expressed their views and arguments skilfully and convincingly. Their exemplary performance impressed the judges as well as the audience.
The winners of the Regional level will compete at the National Level.
Earlier, Director KPS Schools Sharat Chandran, Academics Director KPS Schools Lakshmi Sharat and Principal Sharmila Mukherjee inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
