Srinath University Women Cell holds talk on sexual harassment and legal rights

Jamshedpur, Sept 24: The Women Cell of Srinath University organized an expert talk on “Understanding Sexual Harassment and Legal Rights” to raise awareness among students about gender sensitivity and the legal frameworks available for protection.

The session featured Advocate Anil Kumar Tiwari, former General Secretary of the District Bar Association, Jamshedpur, as the guest expert. The Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Presiding Officer of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and Assistant Professor Kamleshwari Verma also attended the program.

Advocate Tiwari explained in detail the various forms of sexual harassment as defined by law, along with the remedies available to victims. He emphasized that legal awareness and sensitivity were crucial to building a safe and respectful environment in educational spaces.

The session became highly interactive as students raised practical questions. They sought clarity on distinguishing between harmless jokes, teasing and harassment, as well as guidance on how to support friends experiencing harassment without risking their own safety. Many were also curious about when casual messages or comments crossed the line into misconduct.

Anil Kumar Tiwari responded with real-life examples and practical advice, which resonated strongly with the students. The session concluded with a vote of thanks, reinforcing Srinath University’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, legally aware and secure academic atmosphere.
