Jamshedpur, Oct 21: A tragic road accident in front of the circle office under Parsudih police station on Tuesday afternoon left one dead and several injured, sending shockwaves through the local community.
According to reports, 42-year-old Chhotu Karmakar, a resident of Babudih Lalbhatta, was travelling with three companions in an auto-rickshaw towards Hata when a speeding car coming from the opposite direction rammed into the vehicle with tremendous force.
The impact was so severe that Chhotu sustained critical injuries, while his companion Dilip suffered minor wounds.
The car driver managed to flee the spot alongwith the vehicle immediately after the collision.
Locals rushed the injured to Sadar Hospital. Given the seriousness of Chhotu’s condition, doctors referred him to MGM Hospital, and subsequently to RIMS, Ranchi, for advanced treatment.
However, doctors at RIMS declared him dead on examination.
The news of his death plunged his family into deep grief and left the entire locality mourning.
Chhotu Karmakar was an auto driver by profession and the sole breadwinner of his family.
He is survived by his wife and two young children, whose future now hangs in uncertainty.
His distraught family members were inconsolable as the body was handed over to them after post-mortem on Tuesday.
Police have begun an investigation into the case and are working to identify and apprehend the absconding car driver.
A team has been constituted to trace the vehicle using CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.
Meanwhile, local residents have demanded financial compensation for the bereaved family and immediate arrest of the culprit responsible for the fatal mishap.
