Kolkata: In anticipation of the Gangasagar Mela 2024, Indian Railways, particularly the Eastern Railway, has put in place elaborate arrangements to ensure the convenience and safety of pilgrims visiting Gangasagar on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. To facilitate the movement of devotees, Sealdah Division has announced the operation of special trains from Sealdah to Namkhana during this period.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, Sealdah Division DRM Deepak Nigam highlighted the preparations being made for the Gangasagar fair. The event, which attracts lakhs of pilgrims from across the country, witnesses a surge in devotees traveling from Kolkata to Gangasagar. To meet this demand, Sealdah Division is actively gearing up for the occasion.
As part of the arrangements, more than 12 special trains will be operated from Sealdah to Namkhana and Kakdwip from January 12 to 17. Additionally, the frequency of several trains between Sealdah and Namkhana/Kakdwip will be increased to ensure smooth transportation during the significant religious gathering. Strict security measures have been put in place at Sealdah station, Howrah station, and other relevant stations to maintain order and ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
