Jamshedpur: Ichagarh MLA Sadhucharan Mahato on Sundayt demanded compensation and rehabilitation package for the families displaced by Chandil Dam construction project. He said a memorandum with eight demands had been given to Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
Speaking to scribes, Mahato said not a single household will be displaced from their current places until and unless the special package for their rehabilitation as announced by the state government was given to them. He said the displacement victims would continue their struggle for rehabilitation package till they get it.
Mahato said he woiuld raise the issue in the Jharkhand Assembly and would also take the matter to Jharkhand High Court. He said if the project cost could go up from Rs 440 crore to Rs 6613 crore due to delay in its implementation, the government should also increase the rehabilitation package. He said the project was started in the year 1985-86.
Mahato said the survey conducted by the state government for identifying the displacement victims of Chandil dam had not been carried out properly. He said the survey had identified only 13,873 displacemented victims while the real number was between 30,000 and 32000.
