120 Mail/Express and 52 EMU/MEMU trains cancelled

Kolkata, Oct 23: In preparation for Cyclonic Storm ‘Dana,’ South Eastern Railway (SER) has initiated multiple precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impact of the storm and heavy rainfall. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a review meeting with the General Manager of SER, providing necessary instructions.
Key safety actions include the cancellation of 172 trains, with 22 on October 23, 99 on October 24, and more on subsequent days. Additionally, 120 Mail/Express and 52 EMU/MEMU trains have been cancelled. Updates regarding train cancellations, diversions, and short terminations will be published periodically.
Help desks will be set up at major stations, and frequent announcements will be made to keep passengers informed. Controls at Kharagpur and Garden Reach, along with a mini-control at Baleshwar, will be manned by officers from various departments to manage any emergencies.
Supervisory teams and quick-response units will be stationed at key locations like Soro and Jaleswar. Diesel power alternatives are in place for critical sections, and medical teams with necessary supplies are stationed at Mecheda, Tamluk, Kharagpur, and Baleshwar.
Additionally, 49 heavy machines, water tanks, de-watering pumps, and food supplies, including baby food, have been arranged at key stations. The SER is on high alert from 18:00 hours on October 23 to 18:00 hours on October 25, 2024, ready to tackle the storm’s challenges.
