Jamshedpur: The appeal made by Sardar Bhagwan Singh, chief of the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC), to support flood-hit Punjab has begun to show results. After the Mango Gurudwara Sahib, the Sikh Sangat of Sonari has now come forward and contributed Rs 31,000 as aid for the victims.
Recently, Bhagwan Singh had urged all Gurudwara committees in the city to extend help according to their capacity for the villages of Punjab devastated by floods. Responding to this call, the Sangat of Sonari collected the amount through collective effort and handed it over to the CGPC.
Expressing gratitude to the Sonari Sangat, Bhagwan Singh said, “This initiative is inspiring for the entire Sikh community of Jamshedpur. We are hopeful that other Gurudwara committees of the city will also join this campaign and contribute generously to help Punjab.”
On the occasion, CGPC General Secretary Gurcharan Singh Billa remarked, “Whenever calamities strike, Sikhs are always at the forefront of relief efforts. Today, when Punjab itself is battling severe floods, it is our foremost duty to extend all possible support to our people.”
The programme was attended by CGPC President Bhagwan Singh, Chairman Sardar Shailendra Singh, General Secretary Gurcharan Singh Billa, Amarjit Singh, and Sukhwinder Singh Raju.
Members of the Sonari Sangat present included Gurdayal Singh, Balbir Singh, Manjit Singh, Baldev Singh, Yashwant Singh, S.S. Saggu, H.S. Bedi, Bunty, Satinderpal Singh, Sarjit Singh, Amarjit Singh, and Upkar Singh.
