Jamshedpur: Marking three years of its academic journey, the Ghatshila – based Sona Devi University on Saturday celebrated its Foundation Day with a grand programme at the Vivekananda Auditorium, showcasing its achievements, future aspirations, and commitment to emerging as a centre of excellence in higher education.
The event brought together university leaders, faculty members, staff, and students to reflect on the institution’s rapid progress since its inception and to unveil an ambitious roadmap for the years ahead.
Addressing the gathering, Chancellor Prabhakar Singh described the university’s first three years as a strong foundation for a much larger vision. “The journey has reached an important milestone, but the destination is still ahead,” he remarked, emphasizing that the institution’s growth story is only beginning.
Unveiling the university’s five-year development strategy, Singh announced that major infrastructure projects, including a dedicated administrative block, student hostels, and expanded sports facilities, will soon move into the implementation phase. He also expressed confidence that the university would secure NCTE approval in the near future, paving the way for the introduction of teacher education programmes. Plans are also underway to launch paramedical courses and strengthen industry-oriented learning opportunities.

Highlighting the significance of innovation-driven education, the Chancellor said the recently introduced Artificial Intelligence and Computing programmes have the potential to become flagship courses and position the university at the forefront of future-ready education.
Calling teamwork the cornerstone of institutional success, Singh urged faculty and employees to work collectively towards shared goals. He also encouraged students to redefine success beyond examination scores and degrees, stressing that true achievement lies in creating meaningful impact through knowledge, skills, and service to society.
The celebration began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a vibrant Ganesh Vandana dance performance by students Lakshmi Murmu, Mousami Mahato, and Rumi Das.

Assistant Registrar Archana Singh outlined the university’s mission of delivering quality education while nurturing the overall personality and leadership potential of students.
Presenting a report on the institution’s achievements, Registrar Dr. Nit Nayana noted that the university has established 13 academic schools within a short span of three years. She highlighted strategic collaborations with leading organisations, including Intel, to promote technology-driven learning and skill development. Discussions are also progressing for academic partnerships with four additional institutions, including NIT.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Braj Mohan Pat Pingua underscored the role of research and innovation in shaping the identity of a modern university. He stated that strong research output is essential for academic recognition and sustainable growth. Announcing future academic expansion plans, he said the university intends to introduce B.Ed., D.El.Ed., and LL.M. programmes in the coming years. He further revealed that the institution is developing initiatives aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and generating employment opportunities for the region’s youth.
The programme concluded with the rendition of the National Song and the National Anthem by Dr. Sangeeta Choudhury, Head of the Department of Music, bringing to a close a celebration that reflected both pride in past achievements and confidence in the university’s future trajectory.
As Sona Devi University enters its fourth year, the institution is setting its sights on academic expansion, research excellence, industry collaboration, and infrastructure development—signalling its ambition to emerge as a leading higher education destination in eastern India.
