Sohrai Painting Workshop by Sanskar Bharti

Jamshedpur, May 17: Sanskar Bharti Jamshedpur Mahanagar Unit, an all-India organization dedicated to arts, theater, and literature, successfully concluded a three-day workshop aimed at promoting the vanishing mythological art of ‘Sohrai’ painting in Jharkhand. The workshop held at Tulsi Bhawan’s Chitrakoot room, aimed to revive and preserve this traditional art form.

The workshop was graced by the presence of the chief guest and the patron of the institution who honored the participants and trainers by presenting them with certificates. The chief guest highlighted the economic and artistic potential of Sohrai painting and encouraged participants to adopt this art form. He also announced plans to organize another workshop before Deepawali, focusing on spreading Sohrai painting by incorporating it into decorative items like earthen pots, lamps, and urns. The chief guest assured full support for this initiative.

Dr. Ragini Bhushan, Chairperson of Sanskar Bharti, expressed her gratitude to all the participants and members of the organization. She conveyed her best wishes for the success of the workshop and emphasized that Sohrai painting holds a deeper significance beyond mere artistic expression. Dr. Bhushan urged the young generation artists and Sanskar Bharti members to take on the responsibility of popularizing and safeguarding this vanishing art form.

The workshop was led by renowned Sohrai painting expert, Sunaram Soren, as the chief instructor. Assistant instructors including Suchita Basu, Tikam Das, Soma Beura, Shashi Singh, and Sunita Tiwari provided valuable guidance to the participants. An exhibition showcasing the paintings created during the workshop was organized, allowing guests and guardians to appreciate the unique characteristics of Sohrai painting and the talent of the participating artists. Visitors also learned about the natural clay-based colors used in the artwork. The workshop was inaugurated on May 16th by Kanhaiyala Agarwal, the patron of Sanskar Bharti. The successful organization of the workshop was made possible through the contributions of Anuj Kumar, Aruna Bhushan, Doris Das, Sringarika Shankar, and Smarika Mishra.
