Jamshedpur: Ration cardholders under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), including red and yellow cardholders as well as green ration cardholders, will no longer have to wait long at PDS shops to collect their ration. From September onwards, the SMART-PDS system will be implemented across all public distribution system shops in East Singhbhum district. Under this initiative, e-PoS machines in all PDS shops will be upgraded from 2G to 4G network-based devices.
In this context, a training workshop was organized at Town Hall, Sidhgora, for all PDS dealers of the sub-division area. Sub-Divisional Officer Rahul Ji Anand and trainers informed the participating dealers about the functioning of the SMART-PDS system. During the session, questions raised by the dealers and technical issues were also addressed.
The Sub-Divisional Officer stated that the use of 4G-enabled PoS machines will make the ration distribution process faster and more convenient. Beneficiaries will now be verified immediately after placing their thumb impression on the machine, saving them valuable time. The system will also ensure transparency and prompt service delivery.
Through the workshop, dealers were provided detailed information on the usage, maintenance, and technical aspects of 4G PoS machines. PDS dealers were also urged to inform beneficiaries about the new system and spread awareness of the benefits of SMART-PDS, so that the maximum number of people can take advantage of the improved system.
