Sita Soren a rejected, borrowed player: Irfan Ansari

BJP leader demands apology

Ranchi, Oct 25: Jharkhand Minister Irfan Ansari has ignited a political storm with controversial remarks about BJP candidate Sita Soren, referring to her as “rejected” and a “borrowed player.” Ansari, a Congress candidate from the Jamtara constituency, made the comments in response to a journalist’s question about facing Soren in the upcoming elections. Sita Soren, the wife of Durga Soren, the late elder brother of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, condemned Ansari’s remarks as “indecent and vulgar,” and demanded an immediate public apology.

Sita Soren expressed outrage, stating, “Earlier also, he had made personal remarks about me, but this time he crossed all limits.” She warned Ansari to either apologize or face strong protests, saying that his words have shaken the women’s community and raised concerns about women’s safety and dignity. “If you speak this way about me, what must be happening to poor and helpless women?” she questioned.

Ansari’s comment—“She is a borrowed player. BJP hijacks such people and makes them candidates who are rejected…”—has sparked criticism, with Sita Soren responding forcefully on social media. Despite the backlash, Ansari remained confident about his prospects in the election, claiming he would secure a “clean sweep” against Soren.

Sita Soren, a three-term MLA from the Jama constituency, had previously run for the Lok Sabha from Dumka but narrowly lost. She is now contesting the general seat in Jamtara, moving from her traditional reserved seat. As the controversy grows, Ansari faces mounting pressure from political opponents and the public, who are calling for accountability and respect for women in politics.

Ansari, known for past controversial statements, is under increasing scrutiny as this latest remark stirs widespread debate ahead of the elections.
