CII Jharkhand Safety Talk emphasizes holistic approach to workplace safety and wellness

Jamshedpur, October 25: CII Jharkhand hosted Safety Talk, bringing together over 250 delegates featuring more than 40 exhibitors to focus on workplace safety, mental wellness, and modern safety protocols.
The theme of two-day event was “Equitable and sustainable strategies: Building a safer future for all.”

Manish Sinha, Chief Inspector of Factories emphasized that safety relies on two steps: a commitment to it and targeted, effective efforts. He noted that 50-60% of accidents were preventable with strong SOPs, training, and machine maintenance. Since Tata Steel’s acquisition, no fatal accidents had occurred, highlighting the impact of a safety-focused culture. He urged senior leaders to guide industrial areas, stressing that true success included uplifting others and supporting a safe, modern work environment.
Neeraj Sinha, Convenor of the CII Jharkhand Safety Panel and Chief Safety Officer at Tata Steel Ltd, emphasized that “safety is a need for all” and highlighted the challenge of understanding human behaviour in creating effective safety interventions. He stressed that safety should begin at home, extend to schools, and culminate in workplace practices. Sinha also underscored the importance of wellness programs, especially mental health, to complement safety initiatives.

Tapas Sahu, Managing Director and CEO of Highco Engineers Pvt Ltd and past Chairman of the CII Jharkhand State Council, inaugurated the event, stressing that safety awareness was fundamental in industrial operations. Sahu pointed out that 90% of accidents resulted from human error, and he introduced a new safety management approach under the slogan “Checklists, Champions, and Company Visits: A Safety Trifecta.” He also highlighted how technology had revolutionized safety protocols, particularly in urban areas.

Suvendra Kumar Behera, Chairman of CII Eastern Region and Vice Chairman & Managing Director of RSB Transmissions (I) Ltd, focused on the critical importance of digital safety, road safety, and health in city environments. He called for a cultural shift across manufacturing facilities, particularly in the MSME sector, and emphasized that safety was a collective responsibility. Behera pointed out that 70% of road accidents involve young people, emphasizing the need for speed control and vehicle safety features.
The event addressed a range of safety concerns, including safe work at height, health and well-being in the workplace and sustainable health practices. Additionally, discussions centred on safety protocols for city gas distribution systems, with distinguished speakers sharing insights to improve safety standards.
