Jamshedpur, May 8: Four Shramik Special Trains brought more than 4800 people including patients and their family members who had gone for treatment along with workers from Western and Southern States of the country back to Jharkhand. 1187 migrant workers who were stranded in Gujarat’s Morbi during the nationwide lockdown amid the Coronavirus pandemic returned to Jamshedpur via Shramik Special train (Train No. 09409) on Friday, May 8. The train arrived at Tatanagar Railway Station at 4.10 pm. The train left Morbi Station at 11 am on Thursday, May 7.

Soon after their arrival, the passengers underwent medical check-up at the station premises from where they were sent to quarantine centre.

All the 1187 workers who arrived from Morbi are residents of Kolhan of which 85 per cent labourers are from West Singhbhum district, 10 per cent of East Singhbhum and 5 % are residents of Seraikela-Kharsawan.

The administration divided entire Tatanagar Station premises into 13 sectors and three zones with magistrates and security personnel deputed for assistance and ensuring health practices for Covid-19 amongst migrant workers as the train chugged on at the station at 4.10 pm.

Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shanker Shukla along with other officials were present at Tatanagar railway station.

He said the district administration has set up quarantine centres as they expect hundreds of migrant labours to return to the district within the next few days and many of them may be in need of getting accommodated in the quarantine centres, they are keeping the centres unoccupied.

The doors of the coaches were locked after workers boarded the train at Morbi station and the doors were opened one by one when the train finally reached Tatanagar.

The administration had arranged buses to help workers reach their homes but they were allowed to leave the platform only after the medical check-up. .

The train crossed Vasco da Gama, Gairatpur, Godra, Ratlam, Sant Hirdarannagar, Bina, New Katni Junction, Jharsuguda before reaching Tatanagar. The empty rakes will be sent back to Gujarat. The doors of the trains will be locked and the empty train will leave Tatanagar.

Officials of Tatanagar railway station informed that the situation is being constantly monitored and coordinated at all levels.

The official said that desks have been set up all over the railway system and the staff has been sensitized and educated about the subject.
