Jamshedpur, Jan 10: Jamshedpur witnessed a moment of immense pride as Sameer Pandey, the first person of Indian origin to become Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Sydney (Australia), was accorded a warm and traditional welcome at the residential office of senior BJP leader Abhay Singh.
The celebrations began with a special prayer and aarti at the temple of Goddess Durga, seeking divine blessings for the newly elected Mayor.
Supporters and well-wishers showered Pandey with flower garlands, creating an atmosphere of joy and reverence.
He was later feted by Abhay Singh with a shawl, in keeping with India’s rich cultural traditions.
Addressing the gathering, Abhay Singh described the moment as one of exceptional pride for Jamshedpur.
“It is a historic occasion. A boy born in Jamshedpur has today become the Lord Mayor of Parramatta in Sydney. This has never happened before. It is not just a personal achievement, but a matter of honour for our city and for India,” he said.
Singh also recalled how Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally congratulated Sameer Pandey on an international platform during his Australia visit, terming his rise a proud symbol of India’s global stature.
Sumit Pandey expressed deep gratitude for the honour and shared his emotional bond with his hometown.
