Labrador Retriever and Beagle steal the spotlight at Jamshedpur Dog Show

326 dogs from 43 breeds compete as international judges evaluate top canines

Jamshedpur, January 10: The second day of the Jamshedpur Dog Show on January 10 was marked by specialty and championship events, drawing large crowds of dog lovers, breeders and enthusiasts at the Archery Ground of the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

The day began with the Labrador Retriever Specialty Show and the Beagle Specialty Show in the morning, showcasing some of the finest dogs of these popular breeds.

 

These specialty shows were judged by renowned international experts Irina Poletaeva and Perttu Stahlberg from Finland. In the afternoon, the 79th JKC Championship Dog Show was held, adding to the excitement of the ongoing event.

The 79th championship show was evaluated by a distinguished international panel of judges, including Natalia Mestvirishvili from Georgia, Irina Poletaeva from Finland, Nawin Sangvivake from Thailand, and Perttu Stahlberg from Finland.

Prize distribution for all the shows held during the day took place in the evening.

The dog show has seen impressive participation this year, with as many as 326 dogs representing 43 different breeds competing for the coveted Best in Show titles.

Along with popular breeds, spectators were treated to rare and exotic dogs such as the Tibetan Mastiff, Chow Chow, Dogo Argentino and English Setter in the show ring.

The event will conclude on January 11, with the final day featuring the 80th and 81st JKC Championship Dog Shows.

Prize distribution for these championship events is scheduled for the evening.

Simba Crowns Jamshedpur Dog Show 2026: Golden Retriever Wins Best in Show

The steel city’s canine fever reached a crescendo on Day 2 of the Jamshedpur Kennel Club’s (JKC) Championship Dog Show, as Simba, a Golden Retriever, stole the spotlight to claim the prestigious Best in Show title.

The 79th Annual All-breeds Championship, held at the JRD Archery Ground, saw thousands of dog lovers gather to witness elite breeds compete for top honours under the scrutiny of an international panel of judges.

While Simba dominated the ring, several other breeds showcased exceptional discipline and temperament.

Specialty Shows: Beagles and Labradors Shine

The morning session kicked off with high-stakes Specialty Shows. The Beagle and Labrador-Retriever categories were evaluated by a distinguished international jury, including Perttu Stalhberg (Finland)Natalia Mestvirishvilli (Georgia)Irina Poletaeva (Finland), and Navin Sangvivake (Thailand).

  • Beagle Specialty: The “Best in Show” was awarded to Emma, owned by Mr. Praveen Kumar.
  • Labrador-Retriever Specialty: Judged by Irina Poletaeva, the top honours went to Davidoff’s Roja, owned by Chandrajit Chakraborty.

Judging Excellence and Community Spirit

The judging criteria extended beyond mere aesthetics. Dogs were evaluated on their physical health, breed-standard physique, and temperament. The Chief Guest, Uttam Singh (Vice President, Tata Steel Kalinganagar), presented the trophies to the winners. Also in attendance were Ruchi Narendran (JKC President) and Ranjan Kumar Singh (JKC Secretary).

The event drew a massive crowd, with local families enjoying the “joyful interactions” and the “polished acts” of the participating canines.

What’s Next: 80th & 81st Championships

The excitement isn’t over yet. The 80th and 81st Annual All-breeds Championship Dog Shows are scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the JRD Archery Ground. This back-to-back format promises even more competition as top-tier breeders from across the country vie for the final trophies of the season.
