Jamshedpur: Residents in over a dozen localities along Dimna Road in Mango suffered a seven-hour power outage on Monday evening. Electricity was cut off around 6 PM and restored only by 1 AM, causing inconvenience and sleeplessness due to heat and mosquito infestation.
The outage was traced to a malfunctioning breaker at the Dimna Basti power substation. Though officials promised repairs within two hours, the delay extended past midnight. Subhash Colony resident Satish Chandra reported that repeated calls to the electricity department confirmed the extended issue.
On Thursday morning, another two-hour outage occurred, reportedly due to a fault in the area. Additionally, power supply was disrupted for three hours in areas fed by the Kunwar Basti substation, including Munshi Mohalla, Payal Talkies and Daiguddu. Locals blame the higher frequency of cuts on the fact that this substation is yet to be connected to the Baliguma Grid, unlike the Jawahar Nagar Road No. 15 substation.
Officials had proposed connecting the Kunwar Basti substation via Jawahar Nagar but engineers warned that its 16-watt capacity could overload and cause line blasts. Residents continue to demand stable electricity through direct grid linkage.
