Jamshedpur, Jan 8: Police on Friday solved a murder case within 24 hours of it being registered with the Seraikela police station by arresting two persons. Those arrested were identified as Kartik Mahto and Ramesh Nayak, both residents of Dudhi village and Gaurangodih village in Seraikela.
Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police, Mohammed Arshi said that the mutilated body of a 55-year-old man was found in a drain at Sahebganj village opposite Seraikela sub-divisional office along the Seraikela-Kandra road.
“As the body was located we started investigation and it appeared that someone had stoned the man to death. The police let the body remain at the spot for two hours in a bid to get it identified. The family members of the victim identified the body as that of Bikash Pansari, a resident of Begnadih in Seraikela,” said Arshi while addressing a press conference at Seraikela on Friday.
The SP acting on the clues they succeeded to arrested the two responsible for the murder of the person. According to Arshi, both Kartik and Ramesh were drunk and were throwing stones, one of which had accidentally hit the victim who was around there.
“During the course of probe we found that as the one of the stones hit the victim causing him to fall down and writhe in pain, both the assailants had dragged the victim to a nearby bush and dumped him in a ditch there,” said the officer.
The police officer who was also in the investigating team said on condition of anonymity that two youths were trying to intercept vehicles that would pass through the Kandra-Seraikela road at about midnight on Wednesday.
“Kartik Mahto and Ramesh Nayak, were throwing stones at the vehicles. One of the stones had hit the mentally-deranged person who was standing nearby. Incidentally, some vehicle owner who had confronted the stone-throwing youths at Sahebganj had informed the police by dialling 100 numbers, causing a patrolling party to reach the spot. The police party had searched around the place and had latter spotted the two miscreants from near the bush,” said the police officer.
