Cyber thugs dupe Jamshedpur resident of Rs 4.70 lakh

Jamshedpur, Jan 8: Cyber thugs cheated a Mango resident of Rs 4.70 lakh by changing customer care number of Google Pay Bank.

According to report, Shashi Shekhar Mishra, a resident of Kalikanagar along Dimna Road in Mango has on Friday lodged a complaint with the cyber police station in Bistupur about illegal withdrawal of Rs 4,70,640 from his account which is in Punjab National Bank, Mango branch.

According to the victim, he had withdrawn Rs 10,000 from the ATM of the Punjab National Bank near the bank. Though he did not get the money yet he got message on his phone about withdrawal. At this he went to the bank and complained. The bank official informed the victim that he should lodge a complaint with the bank’s customer care and the amount would be credited back to his account.

The victim then searched Punjab National Bank customer care number in the google and found it as 9883876148. When he called the number he was told that the bank would be sending a link and asked to click on the link and furnish all information sought and the amount would be returned to the account.  He followed the advice and clicked on the link on his phone and gave all information including  bank, Aadhar card, ATM number and PIN and then submitted the information.  He again received a call on the next day from the same number who asked if the amount has been credited to his account and asked to submit the OTP so that amount would be returned.  He told the OTP and checked his account balance on Phone Pay to find that all the amount in his account has been withdrawn.

Police has started probe into the incident.
