Seraikela: Seraikela-Kharsawan was declared open defecation free (ODF) on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan said it was a proud day for the people of the district. He said the ODF status had brought laurels for the residents, especially the womenfolk. Swachh Bharat Mission Rural is not only teaching people how to lead life beautifully but is also creating a disciplined society, he said.
The DC said using toilets was the duty of one and all. Construction of toilets is a secondary achievement. The real achievement lies in changing our personal cleanliness and hygiene habits, he said.
The DC further said that many challenges were faced in making the nine blocks of the district ODF, but women, self help groups, panchayat representatives and intellectuals of the district made it possible. He said a total of 1,31,592 toilets have been constructed in the district as per a survey of 2012.
