Seraikela Govt schools introduce “Bagless Day” – A positive step towards holistic learning

Seraikela, Oct 12: In a highly commendable move aimed at promoting holistic learning and personal development, government schools have introduced a “Bagless Day” to provide relief to school children from the burden of heavy school bags.

This initiative seeks to equip students to face real-life situations with confidence while fostering their overall growth.

Under this program, every Saturday, students from classes 1 to XII will attend school without their school bags. On these special days, following the Regular Assessment for Improved Learning examination of Project Rail, students will participate in a 2-hour bagless class, guided by their teachers.

During this time, they will explore various subjects and concepts, drawing knowledge from textbooks, science, nature, and their immediate environment. Importantly, students will have the freedom to choose the subject that interests them the most, allowing them to showcase their preferences and knowledge.

The “Bagless Day” initiative serves a dual purpose. From a social perspective, it encourages students to interact with skilled artisans and individuals in the community, such as carpenters, gardeners, potters, sculptors, and artists who have honed their craft through hands-on experience rather than formal training. This interaction will provide valuable insights into their work styles and ways of life.

From an educational standpoint, students will have the opportunity to explore the school’s ICT lab, science laboratory, and local office, gaining insights into their functioning and work processes. This initiative bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge from textbooks and practical, skill-based learning, offering a more enjoyable and enriching educational experience.

The “Bagless Day” concept is designed to foster independent thinking, nurturing inner talents, and reducing the disconnect between academic learning and practical application. It helps connect skill-based learning with the traditional education curriculum, encompassing subjects like science, language, social science, mathematics, and more.

This innovative approach holds promise for a brighter and more comprehensive learning experience for school children
