Seraikela, Oct 20: Basko Besra, a prominent BJP leader from Seraikela Kharsawan district, has resigned from all party positions and has been welcomed by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Besra met with Chief Minister Hemant Soren Saturday night, fuelling speculation that he could be the JMM candidate for the Seraikela constituency. His resignation letter addressed to the BJP state president cited personal reasons for his departure, stating that his active role within the ST Morcha State Working Committee had become untenable due to personal commitments.

In his resignation, Besra expressed gratitude for his time in the party but indicated that he could no longer serve in the capacities he held. Notably, Besra has a history of changing parties approximately every five years, claiming each time that it would be his last stop. He has previously contested elections on Congress and AJSU tickets in Kharsawan and Seraikela, suffering defeats in both instances. With the BJP announcing its candidate list recently, Besra was left disappointed when he did not receive a ticket. Following the recent shift of former Chief Minister Champai Soren to the BJP, Besra’s meeting with Hemant Soren has drawn attention, as it was described as a mere courtesy meeting at a local program in Gamharia.

As the JMM has not yet disclosed its candidate list, the political landscape remains fluid. With the departure of Champai Soren, the JMM is left without a leader of similar stature, raising the possibility that Besra could become a valuable asset to the party. Political observers are keenly watching how this situation unfolds and whether Besra will officially join the JMM.
