Mumbai (IANS): Indian stock markets witnessed a robust late-session rally on Wednesday, driven by favourable global cues and a significant drop in crude oil prices. The Nifty rose by 298.15 points (1.24%) to close at 24,330.95, while the Sensex jumped 940.73 points (1.22%) to finish at 77,958.52.
Market Momentum and Technical Outlook
The rally gained significant strength in the second half of the day following reports of a potential diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and Iran.
- Technical Breakout: Analysts noted that the Nifty closed above its immediate resistance of 24,300 after breaking out of a symmetrical triangle pattern on the daily chart.
- Support Zones: The index has established a strong support base around 24,000, aligning with its 21-day and 50-day Daily Moving Averages (DMA).
- Future Projections: Experts suggest the short-term structure remains positive, with a potential upside target of 24,500.
Sectoral Performance and Top Gainers
Risk appetite improved across the board, leading to broad-based gains in most sectors.
- Top Performers: Heavyweight stocks including InterGlobe Aviation, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and Shriram Finance led the Nifty’s gains.
- Sector Winners: Banking (both PSU and Private) and Real Estate indices outperformed the broader market.
- Lagging Sectors: The FMCG sector struggled, emerging as the day’s worst-performing segment.
- Broader Markets: MidCap and SmallCap indices also mirrored the positive sentiment, rising by 1.76% and 1.93% respectively.
Economic Factors
A sharp decline in crude oil prices and easing geopolitical tensions provided necessary tailwinds for domestic equities. However, analysts cautioned that selective investing remains advisable due to ongoing input cost pressures and foreign exchange (FX) risks.
