Punjab DGP Flags Possible Pakistan Link Behind Twin Explosions

Amritsar (IANS): Following back-to-back explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated on Wednesday that Pakistan’s ISI appears to be attempting to disturb state stability. The DGP suggested these designs aim to cause disruptions ahead of a significant anniversary.

Investigation and Security Review

DGP Yadav conducted an on-site inspection and met with multiple agencies to coordinate a response:

  • Scene Inspection: The DGP visited the site of a low-intensity explosion that occurred Tuesday night near the boundary wall of the Khasa Army Camp in Amritsar.

  • Agency Coordination: Following the inspection, Yadav met with Army authorities to discuss mutual security concerns and held briefings with senior officers from the Amritsar Commissionerate and border range.

  • Forensic Deployment: Bomb disposal squads and forensic teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed to the scene to collect exhibits and samples for scientific examination.

  • Evidence Analysis: Multiple police teams are currently analyzing human intelligence, technical data, and forensic evidence to determine the exact nature of the explosive devices.

Timeline of Incidents

Two explosions occurred within a short window on Tuesday evening:

  • Jalandhar: An explosion took place near the BSF headquarters.

  • Amritsar: Approximately two hours later, at 10:50 p.m., a second blast occurred near the Khasa Army Camp.

  • Legal Action: Authorities have registered an FIR and continue to investigate in coordination with the army and other intelligence agencies.

Political Reactions and Allegations

While the DGP pointed toward external interference, state political leadership offered a different perspective:

  • DGP’s Stance: Yadav noted that while no group has claimed responsibility, the police believe the ISI is orchestrating a “proxy war” to create unrest.

  • CM’s Allegations: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann condemned the blasts but characterized them as a political tactic. He claimed the incidents are part of the BJP’s efforts to instigate violence and divide people ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

  • Commitment to Peace: CM Mann assured the public that the government would maintain law and order and deliver strict punishment to the guilty, asserting that Punjabis will no longer tolerate efforts to disturb their peace.
