Seminar on Consumers’ Rights at Karim City College

Jamshedpur: The Faculty of Commerce of Karim City College, celebrated Consumer Rights Day to highlight the rights and privileges of consumers. PG students of the college presented their papers based on the subject on Consumer Rights.

President of District Consumer Commission, Jamshedpur Vidhan Chandra Choudhary was the chief guest on the occasion while the Registrar of Kolhan University Prof Jayant Shekhar was guest of honour. The keynote speaker was senior advocate of Jamshedpur Civil Court Om Prakash Tiwari. Dr Deepa Sharan, Dean and HOD  and Dr Deepak Kumar Mitra, Former HOD of PG Depart of Commerce and Business Management Kolhan University, Chaibasa were also present at the event as Jury members.

In his address, Vidhan Chandra Choudhary stressed on joining forces to raise an united voice and press for maximizing consumer protection and empowerment. He appreciated the Karim City College endeavor to organize a programme on consumer rights. “It is very necessary to organize such programmes as they make people aware of their rights as consumers and prevent them from being victimized by practitioners of unethical ways,” he said.

 Prof Jayant Shekhar said that it was necessary to spread global awareness on consumer rights and organizing such programmes was a right step towards that end. He said, “The aim of this kind of seminar is to draw attention to market malpractices which undermine the rights of consumers. People should be made aware of the powers provided by law to consumers.” The chief guest presented certificates and prizes to the winners of contests organized on the theme of consumer rights. The prize winners were Saman Eram (first prize), Ojaswita Singh (second) and Rubaina Yasmine (third). All participants in the contests were presented certificates of participation. Earlier, Karim City College Principal, Dr Md Reyaz, delivered the welcome and HoD, Dr Nazri offered the vote of thanks. Faculty members of the De[partment of Commerce including Dr G Vijayalakshmi, Dr Syed Zahid Perwaiz, Dr Rashmi Akhtar, Dr Aftab Alam, Dr SK Anwar Ali, Rashid Iqbal Ansari and others were present on the occasion.
