Selling liquor is not governments job: Madhu Koda

Jamshedpur: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda today said that the plans of the state government to sell liquor through the Beverages Corporation could land it in trouble.

Speaking to scribes during his brief visit to the city at Circuit House, Koda said that selling liquor was not the function of the state government. He expressed surprise on the reports of announcement to this effect having been made by the state government.

The government cannot sell liquor since it is not elected for this purpose. If the government goes on selling liquor, what will happen to the state and the law and order situation?

Such a decision is definitely against morality and ethics, said the former CM, adding that he would give his suggestions on the liquor issue to the state government.

Koda participated in the Ho language rally organized in Ghatsila. Speaking on amendments in the CNT and SPT laws, he said there was a need to reconsider the decision. He said there was room for amendments in the said laws, but the government had not made its position clear in the amendments, he alleged.

Had the government cleared all public doubts regarding the amendments, people would not have gone against it so vehemently, said Koda who praised the state government for organizing Momentum Jharkhand Global Investors Summit. He expressed hope that more investors would be attracted to the state and that local youths would get employment in their own state.

Koda said the Skill Development Centre going to be opened in Kolhan division by the Central government would not be enough. He said at least three such centres should be opened in Kolhan so that more and more unemployed youths get its benefits.
