Jamshedpur, Aug. 27: State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy on Saturday said that the ground work for the second phase of the Mango water project has been completed and the construction process will start from September. In the second phase 16,000 connections will be given and in next six months water supply will start.
Instruction were given for completion of detailed project report by a private consultant for the second phase of the Mango water project and tender process so that construction work is completed at the earliest, said the minister addressing a press conference this evening .
The government has already sanctioned Rs 35-crore for laying pipelines in the left out areas of Mango in the second phase.
The first phase of the project has been completed at a cost of Rs 64.18-crore while around 2 sq km radius of areas which came up after the DPR of the first phase was completed has been left out of the water project.
Addressing the media, Roy who is also MLA of Jamshedpur West said that he is taking every effort to ensure that the people receive water at the earliest and water supply is expected to start in next six months.
The Mango project aiming to supply 48 million litres per day started in 2005 as a public-private partnership between state drinking water and sanitation department and Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco.
At present, against a demand for over six million litres of water a day, three lakh Mango residents receive less than a third, that is, less than two million litres.
Roy also said the directives given by the state government as per the Tata Lease agreement for providing civic amenities to the people of lease areas have not been implemented. The agreement required the company to provide various facilities to the people of the city.
Roy claimed that Tata Steel is flouting norms as per the lease agreement of 2005 between the company management and Jharkhand Government. Not only has the standard of civic services provided by the company had deteriorated but the areas of the services has also been limited to the company command area only.
We have expressed concerns several times that Jusco that provides civic services in the city is not providing quality services and the people are reeling under lack of basic facilities.
Our demand is that the company should also provide such services like pure drinking water, maintenance of roads, cleanliness and better drainage system in non company areas too for greater and better Jamshedpur, noted the legislature.
