Jamshedpur, Dec 16: Most pedestrians at Sakchi agree that hawkers obstruct movement. Crowded markets, busy roads and narrow by-lanes are congested further when cars and hawkers occupy spaces meant for
people to walk in Sakchi market.
Given that there is no designated space for hawkers in the city, it results in everyone from a tea-stall owner
to a bangle-seller setting up shop anywhere along a pavement they fancy.
Strapped for space, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, or at best, hop on and off footpaths occupied
by vendors.
Seeing the daily problems faced by the commuters and a big incident that was avoided on Sunday night when a fire broke out at a furnishing shop in the same market but fire brigade couldn’t enter the area as it is occupied by hawkers, SDO Prem Ranjan, DSP Birendra Prasad Yadav, Sakchi Police Station inspector Indubhusan Ojha along with
members of Chamber of Com- merce and local shopkeepers inspected the area on Monday, Dec 16 and thought of a
permanent solution to the problem.
SDO Prem Ranjan said that it is the biggest problem in the market and to avoid any untoward incident in the
future we have to find a permanent solution to the problem to make the market safe for the shoppers and shop
owners and we will be coming up with a solution in next 2-3 days and will remove the vendors if necessary,
added Ranjan.
