Jamshedpur, Dec. 3: The valedictory function of the National seminar-cum-workshop on Modern Methods of Chemical Analysis (MMCA), which began on December 1, was held on Thursday afternoon at the NML Auditorium.
Dr J K Sircar, convener, briefed everyone about the overall proceedings of the seminar-cum-workshop. He said last MMCA was last organized at the NML in 2013 and the first one was held in 1996.
Dr. Pramod Kumar, Regional Director, AMD, Jamshedpur in his address said, �The primary objective of this seminar was to bring the fraternity of analytical chemists from R&D Lab, industry and academia in a common platform for sharing of experiences and dissemination of Knowledge in the field of analytical chemistry and we could do that.� Dr Kumar felt such programmes should be conducted more frequently.
Bhaskar Khatravath from Usha Martin stressed the need of public awareness about the electronic waste. He said there is need for a social connect arousing public alertness about the evil effects of certain health hazardous products and processes.
CSIR-NML director Dr. S. Srikanth stressed on the need for converting value by the participants to their respective organizations.
He spoke on the issues of drinking water, health and hygiene of Jharkhand and Bengal State. He said that selection of a technology is very critical issue toward its success as one should consider the socio-economic parameters of the locality before such decisions are taken.
Dr Srikanth cited Sir C V Raman saying, �Anything created must be communicated.� He stressed on the need for information dissemination after every innovations by a researcher for the betterment of the society.
Dr P K Tarafder, scientist G of Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Jamshedpur, appreciated the efforts made by the organizer to run the programme so effectively.
Many participants expressed their happiness over the programme, as they received exposure to the frontier areas of research techniques and analysis. They represented several industries, analytical instrument manufacturers and scientists.
It can be mentioned here that MMCA-2015 was organized by Analytical Chemistry Division of CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur in association with Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Hyderabad.
