Ranchi, January 3: Scholarship named after tribal icon and academician is securing lives of youths.
The Government of Jharkhand has exhibited profound reverence and honour by naming two of its scholarship schemes after Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda, the iconic leader of the Jharkhand movement and the first captain of the Indian hockey team, and Savitribai Phule, the first teacher of the country.
The schemes launched after the names of these stalwarts are helping in securing a bright academic future for the adolescent girls and youths. On the directions of the Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana for the adolescent girls of Jharkhand and the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship Scheme for higher education abroad for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minority and Backward Classes youth are proving to be a milestone.
The Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana aims to facilitate the education of adolescent girls and a step towards women empowerment and gender justice.
Nine Lakh adolescent girls of Jharkhand are getting the benefits under the aforementioned scheme. The Savitribai Phule Scheme was launched by the Chief Minister in OCtober 2022 from Giridih along with the Aapki Yojana Aapki Sarkar Aapke Dwar campaign. Under the Aapki Yojana campaign which went on for a month, three lakh adolescent girls were linked to the scheme. At the same time, in the program organised on the completion of three years of the government, the Chief Minister transferred an amount of 219 crores to the accounts of more than 5,52,000 adolescent girls through DBT under the given scheme. The government’s process of connecting adolescent girls with the scheme continues unabated. Nine lakh adolescent girls of the state shall be covered by this scheme. The objective of the scheme is not only to provide financial assistance to adolescent girls for education, but also to ensure the girls don’t drop-out from schools and preventing child marriage.
Under the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship, youths from the deprived sections of the society have been given a chance to pursue their academic aspirations abroad.
Very recently, the state government has expanded the scope of the Overseas Scholarship by signing a historic MoU with the British High Commission. This will be the first time that the British High Commission will provide financial support to the talented underprivileged youth for higher education. It should be noted that at present six youths are pursuing higher education abroad under the Overseas Scholarship Scheme. Whereas, in the current academic session 20 youths are getting benefits of the scheme. Previously, the benefit of this scheme was being received only by ten boys and girls belonging to the Scheduled Tribes. On the directions of the Chief Minister last year, instructions have been given to extend the benefit of the scheme to the youth belonging to scheduled castes, minorities and backward classes. The number has been increased to a maximum of 25.
