MGM Hospital to Get 10-Bed Dialysis Centre, Kidney Patients to Receive Free Treatment

Jamshedpur: Kidney patients visiting MGM Hospital will soon receive improved treatment facilities as preparations have begun for the establishment of a dedicated 10-bed dialysis centre within the hospital premises.

The Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Jharkhand, has granted administrative approval of ₹2.024 crore under the State Plan for the financial year 2026-27 for the project.

Hospital authorities said the upcoming facility will greatly benefit patients from Jamshedpur and surrounding districts who currently face difficulties in accessing affordable dialysis treatment.

Dedicated Dialysis Centre to Come Up Soon

According to MGM Hospital Superintendent Dr. Balram Jha, preliminary preparations for the new dialysis centre have already commenced following the department’s approval.

Officials are currently identifying a suitable location within the hospital campus for setting up the unit. The process for procurement of equipment and infrastructure development is also expected to begin shortly.

Authorities said the new facility will reduce the burden on patients who presently have to travel to private hospitals or distant healthcare centres for dialysis treatment.

₹2.024 Crore Approved for Infrastructure and Equipment

Under the approved project, the hospital will procure ten hemodialysis machines at an estimated cost of ₹84 lakh.

In addition, a modern RO water treatment plant will be installed at a cost of nearly ₹55 lakh to ensure safe and uninterrupted dialysis services.

The project also includes procurement of several other medical and support facilities such as dialysis beds and chairs, multi-parameter monitors, defibrillators, suction machines, weighing scales, refrigerators and furniture.

The department has also instructed authorities to undertake the necessary electrical and civil engineering work required for the establishment of the dialysis centre.

Equipment Procurement Through E-Tender and GeM Portal

Officials said all equipment and infrastructure procurement will be carried out through transparent procedures including open tenders, e-tenders and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.

Hospital authorities are expected to float tenders soon for the purchase and installation of the required equipment.

Existing Dialysis Services Running on PPP Model

At present, dialysis services at MGM Hospital are being operated through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

More than 10 patients currently undergo dialysis daily at the hospital. Under the existing system, treatment is provided free of cost to patients possessing BPL or Ayushman cards, while general patients are required to pay charges for the service.

Free Dialysis Facility for All Patients

Officials stated that once the hospital’s own dialysis centre becomes operational, dialysis treatment will be made available free of cost to all patients, irrespective of category.

The move is expected to provide major relief to economically weaker patients suffering from kidney-related ailments and strengthen healthcare services at MGM Hospital significantly.

Medical experts believe the dedicated dialysis unit will improve access to life-saving treatment and reduce dependence on private healthcare facilities in the region.
