Ranchi: The Supreme Court heard a petition filed by Manjunath Bhajantri, Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, on Friday. The hearing took place before a bench comprising Justice Rishikesh Roy and Justice Pankaj Mittal. The court issued a notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI), directing it to present its stance, and scheduled the next hearing for January 7.
The petition pertains to a September 22 order by the Jharkhand High Court, which accepted an appeal against departmental action initiated against Bhajantri and barred him from election-related duties. Following this, Bhajantri was removed from his role during the state assembly election code of conduct and replaced by Varun Ranjan as Ranchi DC.
After the swearing-in of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the state government reinstated Bhajantri as Ranchi’s Deputy Commissioner. The Supreme Court’s notice now adds a new dimension to this ongoing case.
