Savitribai Phule scheme gamechanger for girl students

Ranchi, October 12: Hemant Soren who started the Savitribai Phule Kishori Yojana (named after Maharashtrian educationist and reformer Savitribai Phule) for the girl child on Wednesday, said, “Through this scheme a girl child after attaining 18 years will get Rs 40,000 from the government . This is aimed at encouraging girl child education and curbing early marriages.”

Under the Savitri Bai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana, each girl will get an assistance of Rs 40000 for quality education. A sum of Rs 2,500 will be paid as the girl passes class eighth and ninth, Rs 5000 after passing matriculation, class 11 and intermediate and a one-time assistance of Rs 20,000 to a girl child in the age group of 18-19 years. About 9 lakh adolescent girls will benefit from the scheme.

The objective Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana is to encourage girl child to education and helping financially to avoid early marriage, making girls self-reliant and brighten their future. Promoting women empowerment and assisting  in the health and personal hygiene of adolescent girls.

Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana will be given instead of the earlier Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana in the state. In the Sukanya scheme, benefits to girls are given to girls studying in class VIII to XII, but in this benefit will be given even after completing schooling (class 12). Apart from this, in this scheme of Jharkhand government, girls will also get many types of financial benefits.
