Saryu raises issue of ownership rights to urban slums in Jamshedpur

Ranchi, December 20: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai raised the issue of giving ownership rights of land to the people of settlements of Jamshedpur in the assembly.

He also objected against the Health Department for not investigating the drug procurement scam.

During the Zero Hour in the Jharkhand Assembly on Wednesday, Saryu Rai  placed before the House the demand for giving ownership rights to the settlements located inside and outside the Tata lease area in Jamshedpur. He said that the draft of Jamshedpur Industrial City has been passed by the cabinet of the government, in which 16 wards of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) have been included.

 It has been said in the notification that Jamshedpur Industrial City Committee will collect grant of ‘right of way’ while providing facilities to the settlements inside and outside the Tata lease area. He demanded from the Speaker of the Assembly that when the provision for collecting grants from settlements has been made in the formation of the Industrial Town Committee, then before that it is necessary that the government should give ownership rights to the residents of those settlements and issue a notification for the same.

He said that the Health Department has not yet investigated the matter of drug procurement scam raised by him during the budget session of March 2023.

Health Minister Banna Gupta informed in the Assembly about constituting a departmental committee to investigate. In response to a short notice question asked by Saryu Rai in the Assembly, the Health Department told the House that due to the transfer of the Chairman of the committee constituted on March 16, another inquiry committee will be formed on August 2, 2023 under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary of the Health Department, Jai Prakash.
