Auto-Rapido Drivers Protest Low Fares in Jamshedpur; Call for Strike

Jamshedpur: Auto-Rapido drivers staged a massive protest near Narbheram School in Bistupur on Monday, voicing their anger over consistently falling fare rates. A large number of drivers gathered to express their frustration, stating that the reduced fares have directly slashed their income and made it difficult to cover daily expenses.

Falling Fares Cripple Earnings

Protesting drivers highlighted a sharp decline in their per-kilometre earnings. According to the protesters, the rate originally stood at ₹30 per kilometre, which was first slashed to ₹15 and has now dropped further to just ₹12.

The drivers emphasized that in an era of high inflation, supporting a family on such meager earnings has become nearly impossible.

Livelihood Crisis Amid Inflation

The drivers pointed out that the combination of rising fuel prices, daily maintenance costs, and family needs has created a major crisis. They argued that continuing to work at these low rates is no longer sustainable.

“If we continue to work at these rates, it will be impossible to run our households,” said one of the protesting drivers.

Strike Announced

During the protest, the drivers warned that they would be forced to take drastic steps if their demands were not met immediately. Consequently, they have announced a strike of all Auto-Rapido services tomorrow. This shutdown aims to send a strong message to the administration and relevant authorities regarding their grievances.
