Jamshedpur, Sept 12: Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Chief of Damodar Bachao Andolan Saryu Rai in letter to Union Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal made him conscious on the rise in pollution in Damodar river by the companies situated near it.

Despite instructions from the Union Minister the Coal companies and power plants are still following the false practices and polluting the Danmodar River and its tributary rivers.

MLA Saryu Rai sent a letter along with the photographs of Damodar Valley Corporation’s Bokaro Thermal Power Station (BTPS) to the Minister Piyush Goyal on September 11. Rai through the letter informed Goyal about the polluted water dispensed by BTPS in Konar River which is Damodar’s biggest inflowing river.

Saryu Rai reminded Piyush Goyal about the meeting insisted by MLA on May 12, 2015 where Power & Coal Minister had asked all the coal and power companies situated near Damodar River to help make Damodar pollution free and search for an alternative within three months.

Goyal also asked the companies to submit reports and send a copy to MLA Saryu Rai within three months. After the completion of three months, Saryu Rai through a letter dated on August 12, 2015 informed Union Minister that these companies have till now not taken any step to make Damodar pollution free and are sticking to their old stand.

On September 11, 2015 Rai sent photographs of the polluting river by these companies. MLA said, BTPS has made a new Ash pond but polluted water overflows from it and gets into Konar River and it’s now clear that these companies don’t follow the rules of the government.

Saryu Rai through the letter has urged the Union Minister to take strict action against these companies.
