Saryu Rai to hoist Tricolor flag at Gopal Maidan under tight security today

Jamshedpur, Jan. 26: Jharkhand food and civil supplies minister Saryu Rai will hoist the Tricolor at the Republic Day function of the East Singhbhum at Gopal Maidan here at 9.05 a.m. tomorrow. School students, cadets of the NCC, JAP, CRPF, RAF and district police would participate in the parade on the occasion.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing to celebrate the Republic Day with fervor in and around the steel city. Tata Steel managing director T V Narendran will unfurl the National Flag at a ceremony inside the company works, while Tata Motors Jamshedpur plant head AB Lal will hoists the Tricolor at the Sumant Moolgaonkar Stadium.

Adequate police personnel have been posted in and around the Gopal Maidan, the venue of the main Republic Day celebrations in the city. In addition to this, JAP commandos have been deployed to thwart any untoward incident. All the key installations in the city will also be under the hawk-eyed vigil of the police.

A special checking drive is being organized at the border areas of the city. Close vigil is being kept at the strategic locations like markets, bus stands and hotels. The authorities at hotels have been asked to report to the nearest police station if they come across any suspicious person.

Police have issued instructions to the general public against carrying any inflammable items, bags and other such things into the parade ground. Spectators would be subjected to police checking before gaining entry into the grounds, sources said.

The city has been wrapped up in a multi-layered security chain on the eve of the Republic Day. Though intelligence reports have not specified any particular threat perception, a general alert has been sounded across the city.

The district police authorities were making adequate security arrangements to pre-empt any subversive activities in and around the city.

Over a thousand police personnel have been posted in and around the city and at all vital installations as part of the beefed-up security measures on the eve of Republic Day.
