Saraikela police raids three kiosks selling tobacco, case filed

Saraikela, Oct 16: Saraikela-Kharsawan district administration has launched a drive to ensure prohibition of sale of tobacco products in public places. The drive was carried at Garage Chowk in Saraikela where three kiosks selling banned tobacco products were fined. Police Sub inspector of Saraikela PS, Ankit Kumar Ranjan led the drive on Friday. SI Sunil Kumar Bhokta, havaldar Rishi Bhar Murmu and Parmeshwar Mahato raided Anand Mahato’s kiosk and recovered tobacco products in large number. A case has also been filed against the accused. The Jharkhand government has imposed a ban on consumption of tobacco products in public places and made public spitting an offence under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897. The offence is punishable under section 188 IPC (disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant) that attracts imprisonment of six months or fine of Rs 1,000. There are several makeshift shops in the district selling tobacco products like cigarettes, beedi, gutkha, paan, khaini, among others.
